The Arthur A. Smith covered bridge on Lyonsville Road in Colrain. Built in 1870 and the only Burr arch-truss example remaining in the state of Massachusetts, it spans the North River at 99 feet.
Bridges are rather irresistible, aren’t they? The darkness inside a covered bridge on a blinding summer day is just part of the fascination. Thanks for stopping in!
It was a humid day in the cornfields just outside the shelter of this beautifully restored span. The river beneath looked very inviting! The rhythm of the repeating structural members and the spring of the laminated arch do make a wonderful composition. Thanks for your comment, Mary.
Love it!!! 🙂
