    • Just returned from visiting my daughter in south Texas – graduated with her Masters of Arts (English Literature)… Texas is a world away from my native New England. The starkness of the midnight gas (petrol to you?) station in an endlessly flat, pitch-black landscape had a strange, horrible beauty to it. A sort of moth-to-the-flame quality, broken only by the distraction of speeding long distance trucks and the shocking flare of huge natural gas flares burning atop towers in the sagebrush. Surreal, in a word.
